Stand-Up for Grain Safety Week set for March 25-29, 2019

Employers, workers encouraged to participate to raise awareness of hazards

Posted December 14, 2018

Grain handling and storage is a key safety issue for the grain, feed, and processing industries. Increased storage capacities combined with larger, faster handling and automated equipment contribute to safety and health hazards. OSHA and the National Grain and Feed Association, in cooperation with the Grain Elevator and Processing Society, will hold Stand-Up for Grain Safety Week, March 25-29, 2019.

The event will focus on grain bin entry, machine guarding, respiratory protection, falls, heat, lockout/tagout, and other industry issues.

Employers and workers are encouraged to participate in local stand-up events by holding toolbox talks or focused activities on engulfment/entrapment, fall prevention, mechanical hazards, or other prevention measures.

A University of Texas-Arlington website provides information on hosting or participating in local stand-up events along with education resources for the grain handling industry.
