CVSA posts results of annual Operation Safe Driver Week

CMV and passenger vehicle drivers have overlap in top violations

Unsafe driving behavior resulted in over 59,000 warnings and citations issued to commercial and passenger vehicle drivers during 2017 Operation Safe Driver Week, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) reports.

Traffic enforcement was heightened throughout the United States and Canada October 15-21, 2017. Law enforcement also increased education efforts to address dangerous driving behaviors for all drivers, not just those operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs).

Enforcement stats – CMV drivers

A total 30,714 warnings and 8,164 citations were issued to CMV drivers, according to CVSA. Following summarizes the top violations:

In addition, CVSA statistics show:

  • 16 CMV drivers received a warning/citation for using/equipping a CMV with a radar detector; and
  • 19 CMV drivers received a citation and 86 received a warning for operating their vehicle while ill or fatigued.

A total of 7,785 warnings and 12,530 citations were recorded for passenger vehicle drivers. Following are the top violations reported by the Alliance:
