National Preparedness Month focuses on planning for emergencies

DHS urges public to prioritize preparedness efforts

Posted September 4, 2018

“Disasters Happen. Prepare Now. Learn How.” That’s the theme of this year’s National Preparedness Month, which is recognized each September. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) urges the public to plan for emergencies and disasters before they strike, and to prioritize their preparedness efforts.

DHS recommends starting with small steps, such as discussing an emergency communications plan with your family, installing carbon monoxide detectors, reviewing your insurance coverage for the hazards you may face (i.e., floods, earthquakes, tornados), and starting an emergency savings plan.
