OSHA releases compliance assistance resources for silica standard

Videos, FAQs, slide presentation intended to help employers meet requirements

Posted August 17, 2018

OSHA's silica standards require employers to limit worker exposures to respirable crystalline silica and take steps to protect workers. To help employers meet these requirements, OSHA has released several compliance assistance resources:

  • A customizable slide presentation to help train construction workers, which covers the basics of what respirable crystalline silica is, to workplace protections, to medical surveillance and employer recordkeeping.
  • A five-minute video showing how to protect workers from exposure to silica dust.
  • A series of short videos demonstrating the proper use of specified dust control methods for six common construction tasks. The videos cover stationary masonry saws, handheld power saws, jackhammers or handheld powered chipping tools, and handheld grinders for mortar removal (tuckpointing) and other uses.
  • An FAQ page that covers frequently asked questions about the Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard for Construction.
