OSHA improves online whistleblower complaint form

New pop-up boxes help direct complaints to the appropriate agency

Posted August 1, 2017

OSHA recently improved its online whistleblower complaint form to better guide users in submitting retaliation complaints to the appropriate federal agency.

Employees who report unsafe working conditions or employer wrongdoing are protected from retaliation under the law. The revised form helps whistleblowers understand the complaint process and exercise their rights.

Because many protected activities are addressed by a federal agency other than OSHA, the form now includes pop-up boxes with information about various agencies. This ensures complaints are directed to the correct agency and handled promptly.

The new form is available in English and Spanish. Whistleblowers may also file complaints by fax, mail, or hand delivery.

OSHA enforces the whistleblower provisions of 22 statutes that protect employees from retaliation for reporting violations of securities laws, trucking, airline, nuclear power, pipeline, environmental, rail, public transportation, workplace safety and health, and consumer protection laws.
