Scam warning: Callers impersonating federal investigators

Fraudsters demand confidential information, threaten fines

Posted June 14, 2018

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) says it is aware of a “recent wave of scams” directed at businesses. Callers identify themselves as a federal officer and threaten fines if the business does not provide confidential information.

The CSB insists these phone calls are fraudulent. Federal agencies do not call or e-mail anyone with threats of repercussions if the business does not provide personal information or money.

If you have been contacted by someone claiming to be a CSB representative, contact the CSB at public@csb.gov.
