ATRI provides updated idling regulations list

New additions include Wisconsin, Utah, Delaware, New York

Posted January 14, 2019

An updated list of state and local idling regulations from the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is now available online.

ATRI released the information on its website, TruckingResearch.org. The site provides detailed information and hyperlinks to 65 state and local regulations. A downloadable cab card is also available that offers a consolidated listing of the idling information.

The updated online compendium listing now includes Newark, Delaware; Ithaca, New York; Logan, Utah; and Summit County, Utah.

Other notable newly enacted regulations included in the compendium are:

  • Madison, Wisconsin, has a 5-minute idling limit with limited exemptions. One exemption is if the temperature is less than 20 degrees or more than 90 degrees. Fines can range from $25 to $200.
  • Sandy City, Utah, has a 1-minute idling limit with limited exemptions. Violators will be given up to three warnings before citations issued not to exceed $750 are issued.

ATRI monitors the development of idling regulations to help motor carriers and truck drivers be aware of the changing idling regulations around the country.
