Reg Alert: A new FMCSA rule requires motor carriers to inspect their vehicles’ rear impact guards as part of the annual inspection, starting Dec. 9, 2021. Most (but not all) CMVs are required by 49 CFR §393.86 to have a rear impact guard that meets specific criteria. To pass an annual inspection, a rear impact guard must meet the standards listed in item #15 in Appendix A to Part 396. The inspection form must include “rear impact guard” (either pre-printed or written by hand) as one of the items inspected.
- Includes intermodal-specific inspection items for brake systems, coupling devices, lighting devices, safe loading, suspension, frame, tires, wheels and rims
- Carbonless format allows for one copy to remain with the chassis and one to go into the inspection facility files
- Consecutive numbered forms can be used to organize inspection report records for multiple inspections
- 49 CFR Part 396 Appendix G items that pertain to intermodal equipment are printed on the back of ply 2, providing a quick reference to the regulations
- Snap-out format
- Two plies
- Carbonless
- Measures 8-1/2" W x 11-3/4" L
