Lots of people, especially construction workers, face the heat at work. This can be outdoors or in hot indoor places. Too much heat can make a person sick. Construction workers are at high risk because their work is hard and often in direct sunlight. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says almost 40% of all deaths at construction jobs are because of heat stress.
Heat stress happens when a worker gets too hot from exposure to heat from physical activity, environmental factors, and their clothing. This makes construction workers very at risk. Heat can cause workers to not think clearly, feel dizzy, have sweaty hands, react slowly, feel tired, and have muscle cramps. But you can avoid heat stress by preventing it.
This training is designed to help learners recognize, avoid, and prevent heat-related hazards encountered by construction workers in both indoor and outdoor settings, as well as strategies for an effective emergency response.
