A temporary permit is needed if the following vehicles cross state lines without IFTA credentials and license for the states or Canadian provinces it'll be traveling in:
Vehicles with 2 axles and gross weights, combined gross weights, or registered weights over 26,000 pounds;
A power unit that has 3 or more axles regardless of weight.
If ordering during business hours (5am-11pm CST), over-dimensional permits are typically issued in 3 hours and trip/fuel permits are typically issued in 1 hour and are sent to you by email or fax. International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)

When operating in KY, NM, NY, and OR, a vehicle may require a Mileage Permit in addition to fuel and trip permits.
Our average turnaround time for fuel or trip permits is one hour. For oversize and overweight permits, the average turnaround time is approximately three to four hours. All oversize/overweight applications must be reviewed by the applicable state, which may cause some delays.
When referencing oversize and overweight permitting, state provisional sheets are general state rules regarding transportation of an oversize or overweight load.
