Fire Prevention Week kicked off October 5

October 8, 2025

Fire Prevention Week, led by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), kicked off October 5. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home” and aims to educate the public about using these batteries safely.

To “charge” into safety, NFPA suggests the following steps:

  • BUY lithium-ion batteries that contain a safety certification mark such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL), or Canadian Standards Association (CSA);
  • CHARGE batteries safely using cords that came with the product; and
  • RECYCLE batteries responsibly.

NFPA provides resources, downloadable materials, and tools to help organizations promote fire safety messages during Fire Prevention Week and throughout the year.
