Research indicates demand for CMVs, trailers remains high
Posted January 25, 2019
Demand for heavy commercial motor vehicles remains strong despite a recent slower stretch, ACT Research said recently.
While orders for Class 8 truck and trailer orders were down in December, a 10-month backlog of orders for trucks and trailers indicate a bright future for the industry as 2019 begins, ACT said.
ACT said it based the prediction on three considerations:
- Freight rate markdown is down from record levels;
- The addition of new technologies, such as better fuel economy and safety technologies, and the emergence of automated manual transmissions; and
- Increased demand being generated for drop-and-hook operations to keep drivers (and freight) moving.
