FMCSA introduces Truck Leasing Task Force

April 7, 2022

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is now accepting applications for a new Truck Leasing Task Force (TLTF). The task force’s mandate is to examine the effects of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) lease agreements on the industry and consider best practices for these lease agreements moving forward.

Some specific areas that the TLTF will consider include:

  • Predatory truck leasing agreements,
  • Inequitable terms in truck lease agreements, and
  • Financial impacts of lease agreements on drivers.

FMCSA says the task force will be composed of 10 or more members from across the transportation industry, including motor carriers, legal professionals, consumer protection groups, and owner-operators.

The application period is open through May 6, 2022. Interested individuals can apply online on the TLTF webpage. FMCSA encourages those with diverse backgrounds to apply, especially women and people of color.
