E-Verify login process changing this fall

August 22, 2024

E-Verify users will need to sign in to an account with an email address rather than a username beginning this fall or risk being locked out of their account if they don’t make the switch.

The E-Verify system is used by employers to confirm a new hire’s employment eligibility. It compares information entered on a new hire’s Form I-9 with government records.

To get into the system with the updated login process, each user needs to create a profile on Login.gov with a unique email address, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) noted in a news release issued mid-August. The email address becomes the username.

Everyone who uses E-Verify has an email associated with the user account. With the new login system, multiple users will not be able to share an email address when they use the E-Verify browser.

An individual may have multiple user accounts tied to one email, but multiple people cannot use the same email address on Login.gov.

E-Verify users who try to use a shared email will have access blocked.

People who use E-Verify are encouraged to update their account email under the User Profile as soon as possible to ensure that access is not restricted. The DHS notes that E-Verify users who sign in from a browser are being notified by email and phone of the need to update the emails associated with their accounts.

E-Verify URL updated

Employers that use E-Verify should also make sure they have the correct web address. The URL for the E-Verify log-in page was updated in July to everify.uscis.gov.

The new address omits the dash between e and verify. E-Verify users should make sure the new URL is saved in all bookmarked links and materials.

Key to remember: E-Verify users need to update their login information and use everify.uscis.gov to get to the system’s website.
