DC employees may now apply for prenatal leave

March 14, 2022

7030If you have pregnant employees in DC, they may now apply for up to two weeks of paid family leave to receive medical care related to their pregnancies. These two weeks may be used in one-day periods when employees need to miss work to attend prenatal medical appointments.

Employees may take the DC prenatal leave to:

  • Attend prenatal check-up appointments with their doctor;
  • Receive any kind of medical treatment related to their pregnancy;
  • Visit a doctor for a diagnosis of a condition related to their pregnancy; or
  • Stay on bedrest because of conditions related to their pregnancy, if ordered by their doctor.

Employees will have until May 31, 2022, to claim prenatal leave for dates going back to October 1, 2021. Starting in June 2022, they will only be able to apply for more recent appointment dates.
