FMCSA Medical Review Board to hold public meeting

Agenda includes revisions to examiner handbook and drivers taking anti-seizure medication

Posted September 20, 2017

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA’s) Medical Review Board (MRB) will meet to discuss potential revisions to the certified medical examiner (ME) handbook. The handbook is referenced by MEs as they perform driver physicals.

During the meeting, MRB will also discuss FMCSA’s current advisory and exemption program criteria for drivers taking anti-seizure medication. It will identify factors FMCSA should consider for potential regulatory actions that would eliminate the need for granting exemptions.

The entire meeting is open to stakeholders. It takes place September 26-27, 2017, from 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time at FMCSA National Training Center, 1310 N. Courthouse Road, Arlington, VA, 6th Floor. Oral comments from the public will be heard during the meeting, at the discretion of the Chairman.

Individuals may also submit written comments on the topics for MRB’s consideration. They must be submitted by September 20, 2017, to the Federal Docket Management System using Docket Number FMCSA-2008-0362 via one of the following methods:

  • Federal eRulemaking Portal: Follow the online instructions for submitting comments.
  • Fax: (202) 493-2251.
