Operation Safe Driver Week is underway

Officers are watching for risky driving behaviors

Posted July 15, 2022

This week, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is identifying and issuing warnings or citations to drivers who engage in unsafe driving behaviors. The types of behaviors that law enforcement will be looking for include:

  • Speeding,
  • Tailgating,
  • Cutting off other drivers,
  • Using a mobile device, and
  • Driving aggressively.

Each year, CVSA hosts Operation Safe Driver Week and collects data on the interactions that law enforcement has with drivers of commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles. That data will be made available in the fall.

Operation Safe Driver Week aims to:

  • Change drivers’ short-term driving behaviors by having an increased law enforcement presence on highways,
  • Change drivers’ long-term driving behaviors as a result of law enforcement interventions,
  • Educate CMV drivers, and
  • Reduce crashes.
