Neenah, WI - The August 31 deadline for filing the annual Form 2290 Heavy Vehicle Use Tax is fast approaching, and J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. is making the process easier for carriers with its 2290online.com filing service.

The Heavy Vehicle Use Tax must be paid to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) each year for all vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more. Companies with 25 or more qualifying vehicles are required to file Form 2290 electronically. Fleets with fewer than 25 qualifying vehicles are not required to file electronically, but can choose to do so to simplify the process.

The penalty for failing to file Form 2290 by the August 31 deadline is 4.5 percent of the total tax due, assessed on a monthly basis for up to five months.
