These courses can be used to help satisfy the entry-level driver training (ELDT) theory instruction requirements that must be met to obtain a hazmat (H) endorsement. To satisfy the theory instruction requirements, these courses must be assigned and administered by a school or other entity listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Training Provider Registry (TPR). The 12 mandatory courses must be completed and the student must achieve an overall assessment score of at least 80 percent in order to help satisfy the theory requirements.

Mandatory Training Courses Include:

Basic Introductory and Operational Hazardous Materials Requirements

This course teaches drivers the basic competencies for transportation of hazmat, including: shipping paper requirements, marking, labeling, placarding, emergency response information, and shipper's responsibilities.

Reporting Hazardous Materials Crashes and Releases

This course teaches drivers the proper procedures and contacts for the immediate notification related to certain hazmat incidents, including instruction in the proper completion and submission of hazmat incident reports.

  • Identify when and how to submit a written incident report to the Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)

Tunnels and Railroad Highway Grade Crossing Requirements

Hazardous Materials Safety Permits
