UCR’s 2018 fees not yet finalized

Registration start date delayed to November 1

Posted September 18, 2017

Annual Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) filings typically start on October 1 of each year for the upcoming year. This year, however, the 2018 fees are not yet ready. As a result, the usual October 1 start date has been pushed back to November 1, 2017.

The UCR Board recommended fee changes to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and FMCSA must adopt UCR fee changes through a formal rulemaking. FMCSA’s notice of proposed rulemaking to change the 2018 and 2019 fees is expected in the coming days and will carry a 10-day comment period.

Once the 10-day comment period is over, FMCSA will respond to the comments and publish a final rulemaking. It is expected that the 2018 and 2019 fees will be slightly lower than the fees in previous years.

Once the final rule is in place and effective, estimated to be November 1, 2017, the official UCR site and respective state UCR sites will be open for 2018 filing.
