J. J. Keller® Walking-Working Surfaces Compliance Assessment

On-site guidance to identify and fix Slip, Trip and Fall hazards.

The J. J. Keller® Walking-Working Surfaces Compliance Assessment ensures your compliance with the new OSHA Walking-Working Surfaces rule.

Under the new regulations, employers are required to identify and evaluate slip, trip and fall hazards and provide appropriate personal protective equipment, conduct regular and periodic inspections and maintenance of all walking-working surfaces (WWS) in their workplace, and provide training that enables employees to recognize the hazards of falling and the procedures to be followed to minimize these hazards.

How We Help

  • A dedicated J. J. Keller Consultant will conduct an on-site WWS assessment of your facility to determine the applicability of the OSHA Walking-Working Surfaces regulation to your specific operation. A visual inspection of your location will identify any WWS compliance gaps or exposure areas. Your consultant will then develop an action plan for addressing potential hazards.
  • All existing Policies and Procedures for Slips, Trips and Falls will be reviewed.
  • Your Consultant can also review your existing Slips, Trips & Falls training program to ensure it is compliant with the Walking-Working Surfaces training rule effective May 17, 2017.
  • Your Consultant will provide recommendations for improving/updating:
    • Policies & Procedures
    • Training Programs
    • Inspection Processes (floors, fixed ladders, portable ladders, elevated surfaces, etc.)
    • Implementation of Administrative Controls, Engineering Controls, or PPE such as fall-arrest systems
  • You will receive a written Executive Summary that details our findings, along with images of compliance gaps identified in the assessment.
  • Need to complete Walking-Working Surfaces training? J. J. Keller® Walking-Working Surfaces Training Service is the most efficient way to comply with OSHA’s final rule regarding WWS training.

You’re an FMLA-covered employer and you have eligible employees. Can these employees take FMLA-protected leave for any reason? Short answer: No. Many reasons do qualify for FMLA leave, but not every reason. The law and regulations limit why an employee may take FMLA leave, and you need to be aware of these limits. Failure to do so can risk a claim, which could put you in the crosshairs of a court case. This webcast will explain: • What does and what does not constitute a serious health condition. • Whether conditions like the flu can ever be a qualifying reason. • Who are considered family members for various qualifying reasons. • What are considered qualifying exigencies. • Some interesting details on pregnancy and placement leave. • Leave for servicemember care. • How you can determine whether a reason qualifies for FMLA protections.

ADA: It applies more often than you might think
Webcasts -
Many employers think that if they don’t have employees with disabilities, they need not concern themselves about the ADA. This attitude, however, can be costly, as the ADA applies to a variety of situations, even those where no employees have disabilities. Situations involving applicant or employee medical information, return-to-work policies, job descriptions, and drug testing can all have ADA implications. Then, of course, are the situations in which employees could have disabilities, but many employers might not think they are disabilities. Through stories, this webcast will explore issues including: •confidentiality, •pre-employment questions, •medical exams, and •drug tests as they relate to the ADA. We'll explain which employers are covered by the law and what protections individuals may have. We'll also look at some situations that cost employers because of their unfamiliarity with the provisions.

Driver Qualifications
Webcasts -
What is meant by the term “driver qualifications”? There is a large body of regulations devoted to what is involved with qualifying a driver, specifically sections in Parts 382, 383, and 391. However, there is much more to “qualifying” a driver than following the regulations. In this webcast, we will discuss the policies and procedures a carrier should have to make sure that it is not hiring an unqualified driver or its next problem.

Medical Qualifications/Sleep Apnea
Webcasts -
Any discussion of sleep apnea needs to begin with what the rules say, and don’t say. That discussion must be followed by what the medical examiners have been told and are currently doing. However, that is just the beginning of the discussion when it comes to sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a “hidden cause of fatigue” that carriers should consider addressing themselves, rather than waiting for an examiner to tell you that one of your drivers is at risk. In this webcast, you'll learn the regulations that cover sleep apnea, the advice and recommendations that medical examiners have available to them when deciding who is a candidate for sleep apnea, and why carriers should be concerned about not just what the examiners are doing, but about sleep apnea in general.

Entry Level Driver Training and Onboarding
Webcasts -
A driver’s basic job is to get from origin to destination without loss, damage, or delay. This means knowing where you are going, counting and securing your cargo (or actually loading it in certain situations), inspecting your vehicle when required to make sure it keeps running and is safe, driving safely, complying with the applicable regulations, and delivering your cargo on time and in good condition, and completing the necessary paperwork along the way. To be able to accomplish all of these tasks safely and efficiently, drivers must be trained by their carriers. How and when you conduct that training is up to you. In this webcast, we will look at what a driver training program should include, how the training should be delivered, and establishing a training schedule.
