OSHA issues new Compliance Directive for Cranes and Derricks Standard

A new OSHA Compliance Directive, CPL 02-01-063, provides guidance for when its compliance officers should initiate an inspection of a crane operator’s training, certification, and evaluation under the Cranes and Derricks in Construction Standard. The changes reflect the latest requirements at 1926.1427.

While the Directive is intended to help OSHA compliance officers understand when to initiate an inspection of a crane operator’s training, certification, and evaluation, and what to look for during the inspection, it also can assist employers in understanding the requirements at 1926.1427. The Directive breaks down each paragraph of the section and includes flowcharts on crane operator-in-training, certification/licensing, and crane operator evaluation.

The Directive replaces CPL 02-01-057.
