August 15, 2024

A study conducted by a group of workers’ compensation attorneys found that agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting are the most dangerous jobs in California, accounting for the highest number of fatalities among full-time workers. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), researchers found that for every 100,000 workers, 14.3 were fatally injured.

The study compares fatality rates across industries, highlighting the dangers workers face. Transportation and utilities rank second among the most dangerous jobs with a fatality rate of 7.4 per 100,000 workers. Jobs in this sector include passenger and cargo transportation and work involving electrical, gas, and sewage services.

With 5.8 deaths per 100,000 workers, construction jobs, such as carpenters and electricians, are the third most dangerous. While there are fewer fatalities, other professions identified as high risk include professional and business services and retail.
