August 22, 2022
OSHA has granted Massachusetts initial approval for the state’s safety and health plan to cover its public workers. The Massachusetts State and Local Government Only State Plan will cover more than 430,000 employees of the state and its political subdivisions under an OSHA-approved plan, which took effect August 18.
The plan will be administered by the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards. Private sector and federal government employees in the state remain under federal OSHA jurisdiction.
State plans must be at least as effective as federal OSHA.
