AI in the workplace: DOL offers principles, best practices

With the increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace, the Department of Labor (DOL) has released a set of principles and best practices for developers and employers to follow. Artificial Intelligence and Worker Well-being: Principles for Developers and Employers provides guidance to consider throughout the AI lifecycle – from design to use to auditing.

The principles include:

  • Centering worker empowerment,
  • Ethically developing AI,
  • Establishing AI governance and human oversight,
  • Ensuring transparency in AI use,
  • Protecting labor and employment rights,
  • Using AI to enable workers,
  • Supporting workers impacted by AI, and
  • Ensuring responsible use of worker data.
