Anita Orozco

J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. recently honored Anita Orozco, of Tucson, Ariz., as the first KellerOnline^® (KOL) Safety Professional of the Year. The award is sponsored by KOL, the interactive online safety tool that helps safety professionals manage their safety process.

Orozco was chosen out of 150 finalists to receive the award. She is a Safety Manager for the Air System Components division of Tomkins, working with 500 employees at one of 33 company plants. Her winning program, "Caught in the Act," netted her $2,500, a plaque, and a certificate from Keller. She also received a free one-year subscription to KellerOnline.

"I was thrilled when they told me I won," Orozco said. "Being recognized by an outside company for the way you do your job is quite an honor."

According to Orozco, her "Caught in the Act" program was easy and affordable to implement and had a positive effect on employees. When an employee is observed working safely or unsafely, they are "caught in the act." Orozco photographs them, then presents the photos in training sessions to give employees visual examples of safe and unsafe work practices. She also posts photos of employees working safely to build safety awareness as well as morale and pride among employees.
