J. R. Concepcion, our 12th KellerOnline Safety Professional of the Year (SPOTY) award winner, discussed his unique safety program at an awards ceremony held in the auditorium Friday, October 24. As the environmental, health and safety manager for Lydall Thermal/Acoustical in Hamptonville, N.C., J. R. implemented the P. A. C. T. Model (Procedures, Analysis of Hazards, Compliance, and Training), leading to improved safety at the company.

"J. R. has worked with all levels of his organization to ensure continuous improvement of the company's safety culture, including implementing safety teams and creating a five-year injury and illness prevention plan," said J. J. Keller President & CEO Marne Keller-Krikava. "Since the plan's implementation, the company has reduced its recordable injuries by more than 50%."In his speech, J. R. explained some of the tools he uses in his safety program, including Risk Assessment Matrices, Safety Circles, and Safety Cards.

J. R. received $2,500 in cash, a plaque and certificate, 10 one-year subscriptions to KellerOnline, and $1,200 worth of online training.

David Nadeau, Safety Manager at Aristeo Construction in Livonia, Michigan, earned second place. David's unique Safe Work Bucket, which is a visual reminder that contains any and all safety documentation needed for the project, has helped reduce the number of safety incidents occurring at the start of a job. He will receive a $500 cash award, a plaque, certificate, and a one-year subscription to KellerOnline.

Jason Karnes, Director of Compliance at Food Protection Services in Carmel, Indiana, was awarded third place. Jason states that the key elements of his safety program are Respect, Report, Resolve and Reflect. He will also receive a plaque, certificate, and one-year subscription to KellerOnline, along with a $50 cash award.

Since 2002, J. J. Keller has awarded over $60,000 in cash and prizes through the SPOTY contest. Hundreds of top safety professionals from across the country, representing companies of all sizes, have entered for their chance to win this prestigious award.
