ATRI survey reveals cost of fuel is top concern

Driver shortage is ranked second

Posted October 28, 2022

The results of the American Transportation Research Institute’s (ATRI’s) 2022 Top Industry Issues survey showed a bit of a shake up in the transportation industry: For the first time in the past six years, Driver Shortage did not rank as the top concern. Instead, Fuel Prices earned the number one spot. The top five concerns were:

  1. Fuel Prices,
  2. Driver Shortage,
  3. Truck Parking,
  4. Driver Compensation, and
  5. The Economy.

Another change to this year’s results was the appearance of Speed Limiters in the top ten for the first time, coming in at number nine.

ATRI reports that the 2022 survey had the most respondents of any Top Industry Issues survey to date, with more than 4,200 individuals from the trucking industry taking part. Over 47 percent of those who took the survey were professional truck drivers, while 39 percent were motor carrier executives.

The entire survey can be accessed on ATRI’s website.
