FMCSA schedules Medical Review Board meeting for July

Agency seeking public comments on issues affecting industry

Posted May 23, 2019

The Medical Review Board (MRB) of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will meet July 15-16, 2019.

During the meeting, the MRB will revisit its July 2018 recommendations on revising the FMCSA Medical Examiners Handbook and discuss options for providing educational materials on pharmacology to certified medical examiners.

Also on the agenda is the review of a recently completed study assessing the safety performance of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers operating under the FMCSA’s vision exemption program.

The meetings are scheduled at the FMCSA National Training Center in Arlington, Va. The public can also submit written comments to the docket by July 8 in the Federal eRulemaking portal at regulations.gov using docket number FMCSA-2005-20105.

A five-member MRB was established in 2005 to provide FMCSA with medical advice and recommendations on medical standards and guidelines for the physical qualifications of CMV operators, medical examiner education, and medical research.
