2023 Updates

Key changes contained in the April 1, 2023 edition of CVSA's North American Standard Out of Service Criteria Handbook:

  1. Placing a driver out of service for 24 hours for a drug violation (same as alcohol)
  2. False logs any time in the 8-day window will no longer result in an automatic out-of-service period, and instead will be based how recent the violation was and if it was an attempt to disguise an hours-of-service violation.
  3. Updated information on when connecting rod and sway assembly defects are and are not an out-of-service violation.
  4. Removed having a fuel tank capable of being filled to over 95 percent capacity as an out-of-service violation

2024 Updates

Key changes contained in the April 1, 2024 edition of CVSA's North American Standard Out of Service Criteria Handbook:

  1. “Missing S-cam shaft bushing” being added to the list of defects that count toward the 20% defective brakes standard
  2. Adding mismatched ball/hitch couplers and coupler latches not in use to the OOSC
  3. Clarifying that a driver that neglected to turn the light on when required is not to be placed out of service, provided when the vehicle is inspected all of the lights are functioning
  4. Not placing a vehicle out of service if it has an automatic tire inflation system (ATIS) and the system can maintain tire pressure on a tire with a leak in the tread area
