ELD publication date set

Rule to be published December 16th

Posted December 14, 2015

Wednesday, December 16, 2015, is the date the electronic logging device (ELD) final rule will be published in the Federal Register.

Motor carriers have two years from the publication date to comply with the final rule, requiring the use of ELDs by interstate drivers of commercial motor vehicles who currently use a driver’s record of duty status to record their hours of service. Carriers who currently use automatic on-board recording devices (AOBRDs) according to the specifications in Section 395.15 have four years from the publication date to comply with the mandate.

The final rule requires motor carriers to install FMCSA-registered and certified ELDs that meet specific standards on their commercial motor vehicles. All FMCSA-registered and certified ELDs will be listed on FMCSA’s website: www.fmcsa.dot.gov/devices. The agency expects to have the website available by mid- February.
