OSHA challenges employers to take the ‘safety shuffle’

Event helps employers identify workplace hazards

Posted May 10, 2024

OSHA’s Safety Shuffle Challenge encourages managers and workers to temporarily “swap” jobs to better identity, understand, and mitigate workplace hazards. The challenge’s intent is to help employers:

  • Identify jobs. Take a closer look at jobs in their workplace to reveal those with the most hazard exposures.
  • Swap and observe. Foster skills and knowledge sharing between managers and workers.
  • Review and discuss. Engage workers to help recognize and fix hazards.

Once managers and workers have participated in a “job swap,” they should meet to discuss identified hazards and mitigation strategies. Employers should also include affected workers in their decisions before implementing hazard controls.

Challenge participants can highlight their successes by downloading a challenge coin from OSHA’s webpage and using the hashtag #SafetyShuffle on social media.
