OSHA finds ergonomic hazards, inadequate medical care at fulfillment center

An OSHA investigation in response to a complaint found a fulfillment center was exposing employees to ergonomic hazards which could lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Inspectors also found the company failed to provide adequate medical care for workers who had sustained head injuries; dating back to 2019, 10 percent of the injuries at one of its sites were traumatic head injuries.

OSHA Area Director Paula Dixon-Roderick said, “The work done by employees in the company’s fulfillment centers is physically demanding, which makes the availability of proper medical care extremely important. The company needs to do more to protect the safety and health of its employees, including implementation of a companywide strategy to address well-known and preventable hazards.”

The company faces $15,625 in penalties. Additionally, OSHA issued hazard alert letters with recommendations on how the company can address the hazards identified during their inspection.
