ATRI request for operational cost data

Data submissions encouraged by April 26

Posted March 1, 2024

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is requesting that motor carriers participate in its latest call for data on operational costs. ATRI is seeking input to update its newest annual edition of the Operational Costs of Trucking report. Carriers are encouraged to provide data by April 26, 2024.

ATRI says the Operational Costs of Trucking report is a trusted resource that offers standards and expectations for industry costs and operations. The organization is asking for-hire motor carriers of all sizes, from all sectors and regions, to contribute key benchmarking data for the report. This data collection process is completely confidential, ATRI says.

Data request

ATRI is requesting 2023 metrics from motor carriers and owner-operators that include:

  • Driver pay,
  • Insurance premiums,
  • Equipment leases,
  • Purchase payments,
  • Percentage of empty miles,
  • Dwell time per stop, and
  • Driver turnover.

Carriers and owner-operators can submit costs on a per-mile or per-hour basis. Submitters may use the online data entry form or an emailed PDF form.

What you need to know

All participants receive an advanced copy of the full report. In addition, participants also receive a custom report that compares their fleet’s operations and costs to other similar carriers (same size and sector).

ATRI’s data collection form is available at Trucking Research.

All information is published anonymously while protecting all confidential information.
