Comments sought on proposed Ontario transportation regulations

The MTO is proposing to update Ontario Regulation 363/04, Security of Loads, to ensure Ontario’s regulation is consistent with National Safety Code (NSC) Standard 10, Cargo Securement. NSC Standard 10 was last revised effective January 1, 2011, and MTO is proposing to update Ontario’s regulations according to the most recent standard. MTO is also proposing to adopt NSC Standard 10 by reference so that if there are changes to the standard, they will automatically be adopted into Ontario’s regulation. MTO is also proposing an update to Ontario Regulation 413/05, Vehicle Weights and Dimensions – For Safe, Productive, and Infrastructure-Friendly (SPIF) Vehicles. The proposed amendments would:
- Increase the wheelbase of a tractor in Designated Tractor-Trailer Combination 1 from 6.2 meters to 7.2 meters if the wheelbase of the trailer is reduced;
- Modify the gross weight allowances for twin-steer tandem-drive trucks combined with trailers in a non-SPIF configuration; and
- Make minor changes to terms and eliminate typos.
