Comment period extended for speed limiter proposal

Interested parties given 30 additional days to chime in

Posted November 3, 2016

The comment period for the proposed rule mandating speed limiting devices for heavy vehicles has been extended until December 7, 2016.

The additional 30 days will allow stakeholders sufficient opportunity to develop and submit comments and evidentiary materials, according to the Department of Transportation.

The proposed rule — published September 7, 2016 — is a joint effort between the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It requires all newly manufactured U.S. trucks, buses, and multipurpose passenger vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating more than 26,000 pounds to be equipped with speed limiting devices.
