NIOSH releases updated FACE program brochure

Researchers examine high-risk work situations

Posted March 2, 2016

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) released an updated version the Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) program brochure. FACE is designed to prevent job-related fatalities across the nation, according to NIOSH.

The agency says the FACE program identifies and investigates work situations at high risk for injury, develop strategies to prevent such injuries, and disseminate those strategies to individuals who can intervene to prevent injuries.

Specifically the FACE program:

  • Conducts surveillance to identify occupational fatalities.
  • Performs investigations of specific types of events to identify injury risks.
  • Develops recommendations designed to control or eliminate identified risks.
  • Makes injury prevention information available to workers, employers, and safety and health professionals.

NIOSH states that FACE is a research program; investigators do not enforce compliance with State or Federal occupational safety and health standards and do not determine fault or blame.
