March declared Ladder Safety Month

OSHA to present lessons learned at safety symposium

Posted February 17, 2017

The American Ladder Institute (ALI) has declared March to be Ladder Safety Month. The organization is partnering with OSHA to promote events that focus on ladder safety. On March 2, OSHA staff will present “lessons from the field” during a safety symposium hosted by the OSHA Education Center at the University of Texas, Arlington. OSHA area directors will share their experiences with ladder-related tragedies, along with a discussion of ways to prevent ladder-related incidents.

The safety talk will be available for online viewing on the University of Texas, Arlington website.

According to the ALI, over 300 people die in ladder-related accidents every year, and thousands more suffer debilitating injuries. The inaugural Ladder Safety Month is intended to raise awareness of ladder safety and decrease the number of fatalities and injuries related to ladders.

OSHA says ladder safety will be a major component of its annual National Safety Stand-Down, scheduled for May 8–12, 2017.
