Supreme Court decides to stay the Clean Power Plan rule

Decision puts stop to EPA establishing state guidelines

Posted February 17, 2016

On February 9, the Supreme Court granted the stay of EPA’s Clean Power Plan rule. The court’s decision puts a stop to the agency’s plan to establish guidelines for states to limit greenhouse (GHG) emissions from the energy sector.

According to a statement from Press Secretary Josh Earnest, EPA has indicated it will work with states that choose to continue plan development and will prepare the tools those states will need. At the same time, the Administration will continue to take aggressive steps to make forward progress to reduce carbon emissions.
