BTS releases revised November freight numbers

Fell 0.9 percent in November from October

Posted February 3, 2016

On February 1, 2016, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released a revised version of its Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) numbers for October and November. These numbers, which were published in a BTS press release on January 13 have been revised because of an adjustment in the October air traffic data used for the index. The October Freight TSI, which appeared as 123.5 in the January 13 release, was revised to 123.1. The November Freight TSI, which appeared as 122.3 in the January 13 release, was revised to 122.0.

The level of freight shipments in November measured by the Freight TSI was 1.4 percent below the all-time high level of 123.7 in November 2014. Freight TSI records began in 2000.

The Freight TSI is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry. It consists of data from for-hire trucking, rail, inland waterways, pipelines, and air freight.
