J. J. Keller announces free white paper revealing special libraries'
recession survival strategies
Now available: A new free white paper detailing tactics information professionals are using to cope with economic change, serve their clients, and do more with less.
Neenah, WI — J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.®, the leading North American provider of regulatory compliance information on HR, safety and transportation issues, today announced the availability of a new, free white paper, Economic Impact: How Information Professionals Are Coping with Change, detailing the results of a survey in which information professionals revealed their recession survival strategies.
About the survey
The survey, conducted on J. J. Keller’s behalf by Free Pint Ltd., was promoted to subscribers of ResourceShelf, a FreePint-published resource of web-based resources used by information professionals in North America and around the world. A J. J. Keller-sponsored mailing, sent to all subscribers, invited participation in the survey this spring.
“We chose the ResourceShelf community for this research because it represents one of the largest opt-in databases of library and information professionals in North America,” said Webb Shaw, Director of Editorial Resources, J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.
Most of the 308 respondents reported that they work in professional services, in organizations with more than 5,000 employees; a significant portion of respondents work in academic libraries and nonprofit organizations.
The survey revealed:
Making do with free resources is the most important tactic for coping with reduced content budgets.
Using technology and/or automation is most relevant for coping with staffing changes.
Doing more with less is the information professional’s new mantra.
Helping library users become more self-sufficient is key.
Promoting their information center’s vital contributions to management is a must.
“Conducting this survey gave us a bird’s-eye view of how information professionals are braving the economic storm,” said Free Pint Ltd. General Manager, Robin Neidorf. “We learned a great deal about what’s happening in library and information centers, for example that staffing remains generally stable, despite budget pressures. On the other hand, respondents also told us about dramatically reduced or eliminated budgets.”
“The resulting white paper will provide information professionals with valuable insight into the creative ways their peers are coping with staffing and budget changes. This is data critical to benchmarking, an important recession survival strategy,” said Shaw. “We at J. J. Keller are interested in helping information professionals weather the tough economy, in much the same way that our publications help them answer tough HR, safety and transportation questions.”
Those who participated in the survey received a complimentary copy of the white paper. A free copy can also be obtained by visiting J. J. Keller’s new web page for information professionals, jjkeller.com/infopros, or e-mailing infopros@jjkeller.com.
J. J. Keller will be exhibiting at SLA 2009, the Special Libraries Association’s centennial convention, June 12-17 in Washington, DC. Those attending the event are invited to stop by Booth 10 and share their feedback on the survey and resulting white paper. Copies of the white paper will also be available at the booth.
