Neenah, WI — Mitch Seavey, the 2004 Iditarod® champion sponsored by J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.®, took first place in last weekend’s 30th annual Kuskokwim 300 dog sled race held in Alaska. Seavey finished the 300-mile race in 38 hours, 30 minutes, making this his second consecutive – and third overall – Kusko victory.
The Kuskokwim 300 commemorates the first regular monthly mail delivery route via dog team between Bethel and Holy Cross in 1906. Over the years, the Kuskokwim 300 has become the highest regarded mid-distance dog sled race, attracting the world’s top mushers. Among competitors, this race is known to provide a good “tune-up” run five to six weeks before the March Iditarod®. In fact, most years, at least half of the top ten Iditarod® finishers will have also run the Kuskokwim 300.
Interviewed shortly after the race, Mitch Seavey said, “I’m very pleased with the victory … my team excelled. This is a great warm up for the Iditarod® we’re running in March.”
