Neenah, WI — J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.®, in partnership with the Special Libraries Association (SLA), has granted this year’s Innovations in Technology Award to The Boeing Company Library Services Team. The team of 12 librarians from Boeing offices in Seattle, WA, and Huntington Beach, CA, were honored at a recent ceremony in Washington, DC, as part of the SLA 2009 Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO.
The J. J. Keller Innovations in Technology Award recognizes information professionals for innovative use and application of technology to facilitate knowledge sharing. The SLA Innovations in Technology Award Committee chose project leader Diane Brenes and the Boeing Library Services Team based on their successful integration of several technologies — some off-the-shelf and some home-grown — to develop a cutting-edge, cross-connected, customized enterprise library service.
The winner of this award receives a $1,000 cash award, which was granted to Brenes. The entire team received complimentary 1-year subscriptions to J. J. Keller’s online regulatory/compliance management services, KellerOnline®, Prospera® and FleetMentor®. In addition to Brenes, the team includes Sue Brewsaugh, Eric Bryan, Margaret Deeds, Joan Dubis, Angela Gillis, Blair Hinz, Robert McAllister, Martha Mori, Karen Robertson, Josh Walters, and Mary Whittaker.
“We’re giving our employees a gateway to their entire information landscape,” said Walters. “Through custom gateway Web pages, Boeing employees can now access a wealth of filtered internal and external resources, including databases, subscriptions, podcasts, and special collections of papers authored by the company’s top technical experts.”
“The Boeing Team’s achievement reflects initiative and innovation in using technology to expand information-sharing and connect internal customers through content,” said Webb Shaw, director of editorial resources at J. J. Keller. “We congratulate Diane and her team for this well-deserved recognition from their colleagues.”
SLA President Gloria Zamora praised the team for its commitment and thoroughness. “The Boeing Team’s work is exceptional in demonstrating how various communities or business units can be connected through combined technologies — and, maybe more importantly, through the hard work of a dedicated project team of skilled info pros,” she said. “I am especially impressed with its work to capture the institutional knowledge of retiring employees and provide its organization with value-added intelligence. This team certainly earned this recognition, and I am thrilled that the selection committee chose to honor it with this award.”
J. J. Keller’s own Research & Technical Library has been in existence since the 1960s, so the company appreciates the valuable services special librarians and other knowledge professionals provide.
“We’re proud to join SLA in recognizing the achievements of members who show particular talent,” Shaw said. “We are especially proud to support the Innovations in Technology Award, because innovative delivery of tools and content to help information professionals get answers to critical regulatory compliance questions is what sets
J. J. Keller apart from other content providers.”
