The EEOC has released a new Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law (EEO) posting for 2009 to add information about the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), effective November 21, 2009. As a result of GINA, employers are prohibited from basing employment decisions on an individual’s genetic information. The state of Maine has updated its Minimum Wage and Regulation of Employment notices with mandatory changes. Minimum Wage notice: The state agency has made text changes regarding the exemption for counselors, juniors, and counselors-in-training in the Exempt From Minimum Wage and Overtime section of the notice (effective 5/11/09). The agency has also added text regarding discrimination in pay to the Equal Pay section of the notice (effective 9/12/09). The expired minimum wage rate of $7.25 per hour effective 10/1/09 has been removed. The new minimum wage rate of $7.50 per hour is effective 10/1/09 and was included on the previous version notice.
