The EEOC has released a new Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law (EEO) posting for 2009 to add information about the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), effective November 21, 2009. As a result of GINA, employers are prohibited from basing employment decisions on an individual’s genetic information. The state of Alabama has updated its Child Labor Laws notice with mandatory changes. Alabamas child labor enforcement standards will now transfer the permitting process from the public school system to the Alabama Department of Labor. The agency has also implemented work permits that will be handled by them through a certification process involving direct contact with businesses. Schools will still issue eligibility to work forms certifying that students under 16 have satisfactory grades and attendance in order to be employed. Text changes were made throughout the notice and contact information for the Alabama Department of Labor, Child Labor Division has been updated.
